DEATH METAL
BIO:
Apocrafyx was started by Michael Daimon in mid 1992 with guitarist Steve Kovall. After an unsuccessful tenure with their first band together, Severeign, they collaborated again to create a band that mixed death metal while sticking to their thrash roots. Drummer Mark Fleming helped the band finish their set list of songs and helped out with a few appearances at Flash's musician's nights on Tuesdays. In late 1992, Mark Fleming left to work on other projects and the project went into hiatus. In the spring of 1993, Daimon and Kovall recruited drummer Chris Noble and bassist Chuck Taylor. Shortly after, they went into the studio and recorded 'Gorgotha' and released it that summer. Apocrafyx did shows with local bands like Gutted (later renamed 'Odious Sanction), Sodomized, and Adnauseam. In the summer of 1993, Daimon released Kovall and recruited guitarist Dennis Downey who later helped write material for their '94 self titled EP. In late 1993, Apocrafyx released bassist Chuck Taylor and recruited John Noble, brother of Chris and bassist of the local punk band, Salid. They went back into the studio and re-recorded new versions of the '93 Gorgotha demo along with two new tracks. The demo, called Gorgotha '94, excluded the tracks 'Embrace the Grave' and 'Rotting Mind' and featured the tracks 'In the Flesh' and 'Misery at Hand.' The 4-song self titled demo featured the songs 'Sin-Agog', 'Decay', 'Change of Form', and 'Erebus.' The 4-song demo was a step up in writing for the band which featured the talent of Dennis Downey taking the band into a new direction. 'Sin-Agog' and 'Decay' displayed less thrash and more death with sick harmonies. 'Change of Form' was a Sabbath-like opus, doomy and very heavy. 'Erebus' had complex riffs as well as a second half to the song which featured an instrumental section. A definite upgrade from the '93 demo but unfortunately wasn't heard by too many people due to the band's breakup. Apocrafyx did only one more show afterwards, playing the WJCU Earth Day festival in the spring of 1994. Shortly after the show, drummer Chris Noble left the band followed by his brother. The band disbanded after an unsuccessful attempt at reviving it in 1995. Apocrafyx received great reviews from zines like Metal Curse and Screams from the Gutter. Their simple approach to thrashed-up death metal went over well with a lot of people.
